Diwali is a long day of fragrance. Incense at the morning puja, marigolds at the door, sweets on every table, and diyas and crackers after dark. Your own scent should fit each part of the day, not fight it. An attar is made for this: it is alcohol-free, it sits close to the skin, and a single swipe lasts from the afternoon visits into the night. This guide shows what attar to wear this Diwali, from the morning puja to the last card game.
Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November. To have your attar in hand before the festival, please order by 30 October.
Short version: wear something soft and clean in the morning (Sandalwood or Mogra), something warm for family visits (Taifi Rose or Kashmiri Oud), and something rich for the night (Black Oud). Or pick any three as a Build Your Trio for ₹799 with free shipping.

Morning Puja: Soft, Clean Scents
In the morning the house already smells of incense, flowers and ghee diyas. A heavy perfume can feel out of place in a small room full of family. Choose something soft that blends in rather than stands out, and apply it a little before you sit down so it has settled.
Sandalwood Attar
A Flora Five original: smooth, creamy sandalwood that is calm and understated, with soft to moderate projection. It sits beside agarbatti and dhoop as if it belonged there. It is our most classic choice for a festive morning. ₹899 for 3 ml, ₹1,699 for 6 ml, ₹3,299 for 12 ml, with a fancy bottle option.
Mogra Attar
The small white jasmine of temple garlands and a gajra in freshly braided hair. Green notes, bergamot and a hint of peach open it, mogra and jasmine sambac bloom with tuberose and orange blossom, and white musk with sandalwood carries it through the day. Fresh, happy and very Indian. ₹299 for 3 ml, ₹499 for 6 ml, ₹899 for 12 ml.
Family Visits and Lunch: Warm but Polite
Afternoons mean visiting relatives, exchanging sweets and many hugs. You will be close to people, often indoors, so choose a scent with warmth and character that does not fill the room. Rose and soft oud are the classic Indian choices.
Taifi Rose Attar
Pink pepper, cardamom and plum open it, rose with saffron and a curl of incense fills the heart, and sandalwood, oud and amber warm the base. A rose with real depth that still feels graceful at close range. ₹349 for 3 ml, ₹599 for 6 ml, ₹1,099 for 12 ml.
Kashmiri Oud
A friendly first oud (oudh). Saffron, yuzu and blackcurrant open it, agarwood, rose and soft incense fill the heart, and Kashmir wood, vanilla and sandalwood settle into a deep warmth. Regal rather than harsh, so it works in a room full of elders. See Kashmiri Oud: ₹349 for 3 ml, ₹599 for 6 ml, ₹1,099 for 12 ml.
Nectar de Nargis and Madhaavi
Two Indian florals for anyone who wants something festive without rose. Nectar de Nargis Attar is honeyed narcissus softened with jasmine and rose. Madhaavi Attar is spicier, with saffron, cardamom and cinnamon around rose and tuberose. Both ₹349 for 3 ml.
Diwali Night: Rich Scents for Diyas, Dinner and Cards
After the lakshmi puja and the diyas are lit, the evening turns into dinners, card parties and late conversations. November nights are cool, and that is exactly when deeper scents shine. You can wear more character now.
Black Oud
A Flora Five original oud with a deep rose-on-oud character. Saffron and black pepper first, then dark rose and labdanum, and a base of agarwood, leather, amber and sandalwood. Made for evenings and special occasions. ₹399 for 3 ml, ₹699 for 6 ml, ₹1,299 for 12 ml.
White Arabian Oud
A brighter oud for those who want glow, not smoke. Saffron, bergamot and mandarin open it, agarwood comes wrapped in jasmine and white flowers, and amber, sandalwood, frankincense and vanilla carry it into the night. See White Arabian Oud: ₹449 for 3 ml, ₹799 for 6 ml, ₹1,499 for 12 ml.
Tom Ford Black Orchid Inspired Attar
Rich and nocturnal. Black truffle, gardenia and blackcurrant open it, an orchid and ylang-ylang heart follows, and chocolate, patchouli, incense and vanilla make the drydown deep and velvety. Perfect with a dark silk saree or a velvet bandhgala. ₹399 for 3 ml, ₹699 for 6 ml, ₹1,299 for 12 ml.

Musk Vanilla Attar
A dessert of a fragrance for the card table. Vanilla with bergamot and orange, then caramel, cappuccino, tonka and almond blossom, over vanilla absolute, white musk, amber and sandalwood. Warm and cosy; one short roll per wrist is plenty. See Musk Vanilla Attar: ₹399 for 3 ml, ₹699 for 6 ml, ₹1,299 for 12 ml.
Raat Ki Raani Attar
Named for the night-blooming jasmine. Vanilla and tonka open it, then night jasmine, tuberose and ylang-ylang bloom over white musk and sandalwood. A softer, floral way to wear the night. See Raat Ki Raani Attar: ₹299 for 3 ml, ₹499 for 6 ml, ₹899 for 12 ml.
For Oud Lovers: Dehn Al Oud Hindi
If you want the most traditional, serious scent in the room, this is it. Dehn al oudh means oil of oud, and Hindi names the Indian style: rich agarwood and birch smoke, a deep resinous heart, and leather, vetiver and dark amber in the base. Strong projection, so one pass on each wrist and one behind the ears is enough. See Dehn Al Oud Hindi: ₹999 for 3 ml.
How to Wear Attar With Festive Clothes
- Skin, not silk. Attars are concentrated oils and can mark fabric, especially pale silk, chiffon and white kurtas. Apply to wrists, neck and behind the ears, and let it settle before you dress.
- Less is more. One thin line on each pulse point lasts about 6–8 hours, with a noticeable trail for the first 3–4. Body heat keeps opening it through the day.
- Refresh, don't restart. If you change from your puja outfit to a party look, add one swipe of a richer scent over the morning one instead of washing it off.
- Carry a 3 ml. A 3 ml roll-on fits in any clutch or kurta pocket for a touch-up before dinner.
- Apply away from diyas. Put your attar on before you light diyas or step out for crackers, not while holding a flame.
Easy Diwali Layering Ideas
Attars layer well because there is no alcohol to clash. Apply the deeper one first, wait a minute, then add the lighter one on top.
- Rose and oud: Black Oud underneath, Taifi Rose on top. Classic and festive.
- Sweet and woody: Sandalwood Attar with a touch of Musk Vanilla Attar for a soft evening glow.
- Morning to night: Mogra in the morning; add White Arabian Oud in the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which attar is best for Diwali?
It depends on the time of day. Soft scents like Sandalwood or Mogra suit the morning puja, Taifi Rose or Kashmiri Oud suit family visits, and Black Oud or Tom Ford Black Orchid Inspired Attar suit Diwali night.
What attar should I wear for puja?
Choose something soft and clean that blends with incense and flowers. Sandalwood Attar and Mogra Attar are our two favourites for a festive morning.
Can I wear oud during Diwali?
Yes. Cool November evenings are perfect for oud. Kashmiri Oud is gentle enough for daytime, while Black Oud and Dehn Al Oud Hindi are rich evening choices.
Will attar stain my silk saree or kurta?
Concentrated oils can mark fabric, especially pale silk. Apply attar to your skin, let it settle, and then dress.
How long does attar last on Diwali night?
About 6–8 hours on skin, with a noticeable trail for the first 3–4 hours. A 3 ml roll-on in your bag makes a touch-up easy.
Are Flora Five attars alcohol-free?
Yes. Every Flora Five attar and oud is a concentrated perfume oil with no alcohol.
Where a scent name mentions a designer brand, it describes the scent direction only. Flora Five is not affiliated with, endorsed by or licensed by those brands.
