Flora Five's Vaara attar is an alcohol-free, oil-based interpretation of the royal Rajasthani garden that is Penhaligon's Vaara — a fragrance famously composed as a tribute to Jodhpur. Juicy quince and rosewater brightened by saffron, carrot seed and coriander open onto a double rose heart with freesia, magnolia, peony and iris, drying down to honey, musk, sandalwood and benzoin over roughly 8–10 hours on skin.

Penhaligon's Vaara |
How it compares. Our attar captures the recognisable Vaara accord — dewy rose and tart quince glazed with honey, regal but never heavy. Because it's a concentrated oil with no alcohol, the opening is softer (no spray "blast"), it develops more slowly, sits closer to the skin, and lasts noticeably longer than an alcohol spray.
There is no alcohol here at all — the blend is halal and gentle on skin — so apply it where blood runs close to the surface: inner wrists, either side of the neck, a dab behind the ears. Warmth slowly unfurls the rose over the first half hour. Best kept off white kurtas and saree blouses, since oils can leave a soft mark.

Frequently asked questions
What does Vaara attar smell like?
A fresh, honeyed rose with a fruity sparkle. Quince — imagine a crisper, more perfumed apple — and rosewater set a bright, clean stage; Moroccan and Bulgarian roses bloom alongside peony and iris; then honey, white musk and creamy sandalwood keep the drydown soft and lightly gourmand. It feels serene and elegant rather than loud, and suits both men and women beautifully.
How long does it last?
Expect about 8–10 hours on skin, with a moderate scent bubble for the first 4–6 hours. Rose-and-musk compositions wear gracefully in Indian heat — the quince stays lively through a workday morning, and by evening you are left with a honeyed sandalwood veil. On fabric it lingers well into the next day.
How is Flora Five's version different from the original Penhaligon's Vaara?
Penhaligon's sells Vaara as an alcohol-based eau de parfum from its British portfolio; we recreate its character as a concentrated roll-on oil made for Indian wear. The alcohol-free format opens more quietly, blooms gradually and outlasts a spray on skin — fitting, given the fragrance's own Jodhpur inspiration. Ours is an independent interpretation, not the original formula.
Which size should I choose — 3, 6 or 12 ml?
New to rose attars? The 3 ml gives you weeks of wear to decide. The 6 ml suits someone reaching for it a few times a week, and the 12 ml is the economical pick for a daily signature or for sharing at weddings and festive occasions. The roll-on format is identical across all three sizes.
Penhaligon's Vaara is a registered trademark of its respective owner. Flora Five is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with them. This is an independent interpretation inspired by the scent profile — it is not the original and contains none of its materials. The name is referenced only to describe the fragrance's character.
At Flora Five, all our attars are meticulously crafted to maintain their authenticity and purity. Each blend is 100% oil-based and free from alcohol, ensuring a rich, long-lasting scent experience.
